Tall Tree (Elle McAndrews)

Taste the dust as trucks roll by

Country roads, can see for miles

Climb up a tree, a dream to fly

Wind freely blows through open sky

Careless sun shines in my eyes

A reverie in passing time

Sway in the wind and hold me high

I cannot be afraid to spread my wings

Thoughts float away on clouds of white

I cannot stop what dreaming brings

Fields of green, fields of gold

Is this a place I will grow old

Up in this tree, stories flow

Do I dare to walk away

From what I know, what is safe

From Dusty trail to vast highway

It’s been so long since I’ve been there

Up in that tree without a care

I found a dreamer deep inside

Through the heartache and the weight

Of the lives we choose to make

The branch of hope will hold us high

And oh, where the wind blows

I know, I can go

Only my heart knows

Where I will go

Welcome & Passing the Peace

We are all treaty people, and we meet today on Treaty 7 land that we we share with all our relations.

Ready To Take a Chance Again (Barry Manilow)

You remind me I live in a shell

Safe from the past and doin' okay but not very well

No jolts, no surprises, no crisis arises

My life goes along as it should

It's all very nice, but not very good

And I'm ready to take a chance again

Ready to put my love on the line with you

Been livin' with nothing to show for it

You get what you get when you go for it

And I'm ready to take a chance again with you

When she left me, in all my despair

I just held on, my hopes were all gone

Then I found you there

Today’s Lesson

Immediately. Sometimes, we make big decisions in a small window of opportunity.

In Quotation

High achievers spot rich opportunities swiftly, make big decisions quickly and move into action immediately. Follow these principles and you can make your dreams come true.
–– Robert H. Schuller

You know what works in venture capital? A group of incredibly smart, connected people who have the financial wherewithal and risk appetite to make multi-million dollar bets on unproven ideas and inexperienced founders. People who can make decisions quickly, and who spend their time trying to help entrepreneurs make the most of that cash.

–– Sarah Lacy

You don't have the chance in a small business - when every dollar counts, every day - to make too many mistakes and recover from them, and you don't have the luxury of waiting to make the decision. You have to move quickly.

–– Suzan DelBene

Presidents quickly realize that while a single act might destroy the world they live in, no one single decision can make life suddenly better or can turn history around for the good.

–– Lyndon B. Johnson

Text

Matthew 4:17-23

From that time Jesus began to proclaim, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."

As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.

Something New (Elle McAndrews)

An opportunity, came to visit me

And I wasn’t sure, that the life I lead

Was the right one, I’ve had my fun

And I’ll share the blame, It wasn’t all in vain

Now something new, is moving through

Pushing me, pushing me to make a move

So let’s go, let’s go

Bet you never seen me act this way before

You never seen me talk this way before

But my dreams have never been so close

And I’m going for it, now I’m a force

I took a chance, I didn’t understand

What it could do to me, taking risks generally

Bring on the doubt, screaming loud

But I’ll turn the music up, and sing louder cuz’

Bet you never seen me act this way before

You never seen me talk this way before

But my dreams have never been so close

And I’m going for it, now I’m a force

Guided Meditation & Prayer

This time is for you. We encourage you to be courageous and vulnerable by going inward and asking God to move.

The Table

You are invited to light a candle, make an offering, and eat the bread and grapes. Every part of this table is open to you. Every part of this table is optional.

I'm on Fire (Bruce Springsteen)

Hey little girl, is your daddy home?

Did he go away and leave you all alone? Mhmm

I got a bad desire

Oh oh oh, I'm on fire

Tell me now, baby, is he good to you?

And can he do to you the things that I do? Oh no

I can take you higher

Oh oh oh, I'm on fire

Sometimes it's like someone took a knife, baby

Edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley

Through the middle of my skull

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet

And a freight train running through the middle of my head

Only you can cool my desire

Oh oh oh, I'm on fire

A New Creed

We are not alone,

we live in God’s world.

We believe in God:

who has created and is creating,

who has come in Jesus,

the Word made flesh,

to reconcile and make new,

who works in us and others

by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:

to celebrate God’s presence,

to live with respect in Creation,

to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

God is with us.

We are not alone.

Thanks be to God.

"A New Creed" is an affirmation of faith used widely in the worship services of the United Church of Canada. It was originally adopted in 1968 by the 23rd General Council. Originally known as "A Contemporary Expression of Christian Faith," it began with the line "Man is not alone." It was amended in 1980 to make its language inclusive, and again in 1995 to add the words "to live with respect in Creation."

The creed is not meant to replace the ancient Apostles' Creed or the Nicene Creed, but to act as a supplement to these statements of faith.
